| Prior to the American Revolutionary War, all the 13 states in the US were colonies of the British Empire. The inhabitants of the colonies were very independent people, and they were not comfortable with the idea of being ruled by a government that was located so far away. The British were making unreasonable demands on the colonies, ordering them to pay for the war debt that resulted from the French and Indian War as well as high taxes. The Americans were also dissatisfied that they did not have a representative in the British Parliament who could vote on British laws. 1775 The American Revolutionary War was a result of the increasing restrictions that were imposed on the colonies by the British government. Clashes between the colonists and the British had occurred on several occasions before the war, and the British had responded by using violence on the Americans. The Americans started to rebel against British laws, and they piled up weapons and ammunition to prepare for war. An open warfare against British soldiers in Lexington and Concord in 1775 marked the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. |
